Many mineral makeup brands contain titanium dioxide or zinc oxide, ingredients that are anti-inflammatory, especially beneficial to those suffering from occasional or regular breakouts, while also boasting the benefit of sun protection. Plus, mineral makeup has earned a reputation for serving up smoother, longer-lasting coverage than traditional makeup, thanks in part to micronized minerals.

Leave it. Pur Minerals 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Foundation: We loved the time-saving concept behind this product which promises to serve as concealer, foundation, powder and SPF protection. However, the coverage is much heavier, aka less-natural looking, than other brands we tested. Following just a few uses, we began to break out, probably due to the inclusion of Shea Butter, a rich emollient, among the product's ingredients. Consumers with oily or combination skin will want to leave this product at the makeup counter.

Love It! Youngblood Mineral Foundation. Those in need of serious coverage will love Youngblood's Pressed Mineral Foundation which makes the art of the cover-up easy and natural-looking. The fragrance-free, talc-free product is available in 16 shades from the very fair "pearl" to the deep "mahogany."

Leave It. Physician's Formula Mineral Wear Powder: We purchased this product after perusing the aisles of my local CVS for some affordably priced mineral makeup ($12.95). Unfortunately, Physician's Formula Mineral Wear Powder earned a spot as one of the worst on our list due to poor coverage and the disappointing inclusion of parabens in the ingredients, specifically methylparaben and propylparaben.

Love It! Jane Iredale's PurePressed Base: This mineral must-have provides SPF 20 protection in a rich assortment of shades sure to suit any skin color.

One of the pricier products on our list at $60 is Colorescience Suncanny Foundation. This product offers instant broad-spectrum, chemical-free UV protection and is free of oil, talc, colorants and parabens.
