Revealing Our Most Natural Glowposted on 08/23/2009 | Back to Blog
I found this article esecially interesting! Revealing our most natural glow Studies have shown that the human body emits a visible light-though 1,000 times less intense than what the naked eye can typically discern-which is believed to be caused by a free-radical phenomenon. Not to be mistaken for infrared radiation from body heat, this light was recently studied at greater length by Japanese scientists. Observing five volunteers in complete darkness, the researchers found that our bodies glow at different intensities throughout the day, reaching its peak around 4 pm. This glow cycle may be linked to the pattern of our metabolic rhythm, which fluctuates throughout the day. The researchers also noted that our faces glow more than the rest of our bodies, presumably because our faces tend to be tanner. Tanner skin means more melanin, which has fluorescent traits that could be contributing to the luminescence. Unfortunately, you'd need a special photon-sensitive camera in order to see our natural glow, so you'll probably want to continue moisturizing and exfoliating if you want others to notice your radiance.
